Add your email account to Gmail

I received a couple of requests recently from some clients to help them add their own email account to their gmail.com account for easy access. This ease up the need to check their email account in different location. Although personally I do not recommend linking your email accounts together in case something bad would happen, and it will happen at some point unfortunately. But anyway, not me to decide, if you need to add your email account to gmail.com then read bellow steps, its fairly easy.

First and foremost, you need to make sure you have your own email account details. For users using cPanel for their email account, please follow the steps:

  1. Login to your cPanel account
  2. Click on Email accounts.
  3. Create the email account if you haven’t done this already
  4. Click the “More” button next to your domain name and select Configure Email client

On that page you will find everything you need to set your email account with any email client.

Now the next steps need to be done at your gmail account, so lets login there first

http://www.gmail.com

Then you need to go to your settings page, you do this right after you login to your gmail account, by clicking the top-right button and select from the dropdown the “settings” option:

Gmail Settings

Gmail Settings

From there, you need to go to Accounts and there click the link “Add a POP3 mail account you own”:

Gmail add pop3 mail account

Next a popup will appear where you need to enter your email address you wish to use, in my test I used [email protected]

On your next page you will use the settings from your email provider, the email client settings we found in your cPanel account earlier:

In the above picture you will see that there was a problem connecting to domain.com, obviously I only used it for testing. But in your case, you need to enter the correct:

  • Username (in most cases this is your email address)
  • Email Password
  • POP server (in most cases this is your own domain name)

You can also use SSL if your mail provider supports this, but make sure you use then the correct port, default port for SSL POP connection is 995.

Then you are done, click the Add account button and you should be completed. You will notice your email account added there in Accounts settings. In your Inbox section you will start to see your email account messages being displayed.

You can also set your SMTP settings for your email if this is required to send emails from that email account you added, right after you click Add account, you will be pointed forward to add the SMTP settings. I choose to skip that.

That’s it for now, if you have questions, please comment bellow.
