Fix printing offset Brother printer Ubuntu

Today will be a short and easy fix on how to fix the printing offset of a printer (in my case was Brother brand) when the result printed will be offset by a few millimeters to the left or to another direction (top offset, bottom offset or right offset printing). For some strange, unknown reason, I found my printer printing pages with a few millimeters to the left. I’m currently using Ubuntu 12.04 like you see below, the long term support version:

This is just my speculation, but I think the cups driver on my Ubuntu has been updated and probably the settings for this have been reset. I remember setting the scaling to my printer settings to fit the page, so it should have been working.

Anyway, to fix this issue you need to open the printing System config printer running the command:

This will open the system configuration printer settings where you will see your printer there. Next follow:

  • Right click on this and select “Properties“.
  • Go to Job Options in section “Common options
  • Mark the checkbox “Scale to fit”
  • Hit OK or Apply and test your printer.

I believe that the same result would be seen if you go to

  • Right click on this and select “Properties“.
  • Go to Printer Options in section “General
  • Here select the Media size to Letter.

I may be wrong about this, but I believe it is something to do with how the paper size is scaled wrongly from the system, hence the offset is being seen just  abit to the left.

That’s about it for today, how it helped someone with this and I may be making a tutorial on installing my Brother printer and scanner, I know I had some issues with it when I installed it.
